Winston-Salem, NC Auction Results (2014)
February 14, 2014
This was probably the smallest auction I've ever attended at Winston-Salem. I got there before 11 AM, but they had already started on the first row--almost nothing in the initial "junk corner." There were only a handful of classic games, all in the first row. I was looking for a Galaga, but there weren't any. I did see a fully-working Daytona USA twin go for $200 and a couple of really nice (empty) Golden Tee Live and Silver Strike Bowling Live cabients that would have been great for MAME projects that they couldn't even sell for $5 each! I would have jumped at both of those deals...but I didn't have any way to get anything that big home.
The pinball selection, though small, was actually very high quality stuff, including a Medieval Madness--something you don't see every day! There were three that aren't on my list--Wizard and Flip-Flop (both EM machines) and Centaur. There were guys working on the two EMs the entire auction--and they were still working on them after the action was over! The Centaur was sitting between the two EMs, so I assume it was theirs as well. I have no idea what they were doing there if they weren't for sale. Too bad, too--I would have liked to have seen what the Centaur went for.

This auction was a lot bigger than the one in April, and there were some real treasures to be had--especially if you are a TRON fan. One collector was selling his collection, and he brought four TRON-related machines: two TRON's (an upright and a cocktail), and two Discs of TRON games--a normal upright and an environmental--which is one of the Holy Grails of coin-op collecting! In addition, there were cocktail versions of Defender and Tapper (the Budweiser version), as well as a couple of other games you don't see a lot of like Nibbler and Mr. Do's Castle.
The pinball selection wasn't bad, but there was nothing spectacular. Since I didn't see anything I wanted, I only stayed until they finished the classics row. I'll see if I can find the pinball results elsewhere. If I do, I'll post them.
